LEWISTON — A local man police say grabbed cash from the till of a variety store on Tuesday was arrested and charged with robbery.
Police said Tyler Mancuso, 30, of 31 Hamel St., was at Discount Smokes and Variety at 124 Bartlett St. shortly after 1:30 p.m. when he asked the cashier for change. As the clerk opened the cash drawer, Mancuso reached over the counter and grabbed a handful of cash. The clerk struggled over the money with Mancuso, who freed himself and fled the store, according to Lt. Mark Cornelio.
A detective reviewing surveillance video recognized Mancuso and identified him. His name was given to patrol officers who spotted him on the street.
No weapon was displayed and no injuries were reported, Cornelio said.
Robbery, a Class A crime, is punishable by up to 30 years in prison.
