1954 – 2015
PIKE ROAD, Ala. — Peter Lee “Putt” Bonney, 60, of Pike Road, Ala., and formerly of Oxford, passed away at his home on Friday, Jan. 9, after a courageous battle with brain cancer.
He was born in Portland on May 9, 1954, to Vernon and Nancy (Luce) Bonney, and grew up in Norway. He graduated from Oxford Hills High School in 1972 and attended Central Maine Vocational Technical Institute.
He married Katherine Tripp on June 18, 1983, and was a wonderful father to their daughter, Kara.
Pete worked for many years at Sanborn Machine as a welder. He was a member of Spurrs Corner Church and assisted the worship team in the sound booth. Pete and Kathy lived in Oxford for many years and moved to Alabama three years ago.
Pete, also known as “Putt” to his friends, loved hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, boating, riding his motorcycle with his brothers and cruising in his Mustang. He will be missed most for his great sense of humor, his gift for listening and connecting with others, his ability to fix anything and his love of children.
He leaves behind his wife, Kathy; mother, Nancy; daughter, Kara, and her family, Adam, Ayden and Jackson Walling; his brothers, Daniel and David; his in-laws, Patricia and Wayne Jackson, Barbara and Jeff Austin and Leslie Lufkin; his nieces and nephews; and a grandniece and grandnephew. He also leaves behind his special friends, Steve and Trudie Hazelton and Scott Sessions.
He was predeceased by his father, Vernon; and sister-in-law, Gale Bonney.
