1945 – 2015

Norway — Frederic Ernest Sawyer, 69, of Woodstock, died on Wednesday, Jan. 14, in Norway, after many years of declining health.

He was born March 6, 1945, in Augusta, the son of Robert P. and Gladys S. Sawyer Sr. He graduated from Cony High School in 1964. He married Sally J. Brooks on Feb. 14, 1969. He served his country in the U.S. Navy, in Vietnam, and also in the reserve. He worked as a truck driver, a machinist at Stowell Wood Product and was self-employed, until he retired due to ill health. Frederic was a gun enthusiast and belonged to the Waterford Fish and Game.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years; a daughter, Angela Fletcher and her fiancé, Kevin Felker, of Winslow; and daughter, Bethany Varney and her husband, David, of Palmdale, Calif.; grandchildren, Nicole and Garrett Fletcher, Nicole, Rosemary, Kloe, Kalle, Max and Lucy Varney; brother, Robert Jr. and his wife, Betty, of Gouldsboro; sisters, Margaret Macdonald and husband, Robert, of Bridgton, Judy Jenkin of Gold River, B.C., Canada, Mary Stevens, Joan Sawyer, and Gail Ann Sawyer, all of Augusta; many special nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents.
