1934 – 2015
RUMFORD — Richard P. Clark Sr., 80, of Newry, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends on Monday, Jan. 12, at Rumford Community Hospital.
He was born in Concord, N.H., on July 9, 1934, a son of Ulysses and Edna (Forst) Clark. He attended Concord schools and received his GED at the top of his class while serving his country. He served his country faithfully in the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Air Force. He was a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam wars. Of the many places that Richard was assigned throughout his military career, he was fortunate enough to be assigned to Germany and the Isle of Crete in the Mediterranean. He retired with 20-plus years from the United States Air Force in 1973. Following his military career, he worked for CONTEL which later became Oxford Networks and retired from there after 12 years.
Richard was a member of the American Legion; the Bethel Lodge of Masons AF & AM; Kora Shrine, where he was a Funster; the NRA; the Windy Valley Snowmobile Club; and the American Legion of Gorham, N.H. He was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and he was also a champion skeet shooter.
He married Elizabeth Dore on March 12, 1955. They lived in Newry for 36 years after coming from Concord, N.H.
Richard is predeceased by a brother, Irvin Clark; and a sister, Constance Witham.
Surviving are his beloved wife of Newry; son, Richard Paul Clark Jr. and his wife, Cynthia Pipes, of Amarillo, Texas; a daughter, Tracie Clark and her partner, Beverly Roland, of Centennial, Colo.; a half-sister, Francis Mitchell of Port Richey, Fla.; and a sister-in-law, Jeannette Hausemann of Spring Hill, Fla.
