SALEM TOWNSHIP — A 17-year-old Highland Plantation girl was treated for a cut on her hand after she lost control of the truck she was driving Wednesday afternoon on Baker Hill Road, Franklin County Deputy Matt Brann said.
Rebekah Howard told Brann when she got to a corner, a van was traveling north in the oncoming lane and both vehicles were hugging the centerline, he said. She attempted to move over and lost control of the truck on the snow-covered road, Brann said.
Her pickup truck went backward into the ditch in the southbound lane, rolled over and came to rest on the passenger side, he said.
She was wearing her seat belt and the air bags did not deploy.
“Driving too fast for conditions and driver inexperience most likely led to the cause of the crash,” Brann said.
The Nissan truck was owned by the girl’s father, Daniel Howard.
Howard received a cut on her hand trying to get out of the truck. NorthStar EMS ambulance personnel treated her at the scene but she was not taken to a hospital.
Salem Fire Department assisted at the accident, which occurred at about 12:39 p.m.
