1927 – 2015
AUBURN — Ivan E. Arsenault, 87, died Thursday, Jan. 15, at the Hospice House. He was a resident of Maple Street in Rumford.
Born in Rumford on May 23, 1927, he was a son of Alyre and Catherine (Martin) Arsenault. Ivan worked for Boise Cascade as a boiler operator until his retirement after 40 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1944 to 1948, as an aviation machinist mate.
Ivan was a communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior, St. Athanasius-St. John Church, and volunteered his services as a carpenter at the church for 18 years.
He enjoyed snow-machining, hunting and fishing, and was a call man for the Rumford Fire Department for over 40 years. He was a member of the state of Maine Federation of Firefighters, Western Maine Firefighters and the Rumford Firemen’s Relief Association. He was a 50-year member of the Napoleon Ouellette Post No. 24 American Legion, and a member of the Polar Bears Snowmobile Club and the River Valley ATV Club.
Ivan was married in Rumford on June 9, 1951, to Patricia Shea, who died in Auburn on Jan. 3, 2011.
Survivors include his daughter, Sharon Eastman and her husband, Bruce, of Buxton; a son, David Arsenault and his wife, Karin, of Kennebunk; two grandsons, Tyler and Eric Arsenault of Kennebunk; and a sister, Sister Violet Arsenault, of Framingham, Mass.
He was predeceased by his wife; and two brothers, Raymond, who died on the Don Disaster, and Richard of Massachusetts.
