LIVERMORE FALLS — Water district customers in Livermore Falls, Jay and Farmington have reported receiving notices from HomeServe USA Repair Management Corp., which offers insurance for waterlines.

The districts and the towns have nothing to do with the insurance, local officials said.

One customer brought a notice to the Livermore Falls Water District, Clerk Cheryl Marceau said.

In other towns, people are calling town offices and water districts, asking about the insurance.

Customers of the Farmington Water Department, which is run by Farmington Village Corp., started receiving notices this week.

The notice from HomeServe USA Repair Management Corp., based in Connecticut, informs homeowners that they are responsible for the waterline on their property. The company’s plan, according to the notice, proposes that it would cover certain costs associated with damage caused by wear and tear, but not damage caused by an accident or negligence. Additional exclusions apply.

Local officials recommend that consumers review the waterline coverage details to be sure they understand the conditions of the service plan. They also advise consumers to contact their insurance companies to determine if they need waterline insurance, and to do some research on the company before they commit to purchasing a policy.
