1942 – 2015

WEST PARIS — Edith M. LaFrance, 72, of Norway, passed away peacefully on Friday, Jan. 16, at the Ledgeview Living Center.

Edith was born in South Paris on March 11, 1942, and attended local schools. She did her freshman year at Oxford High School, where she was on the girls’ championship basketball team. She spent the remaining high school years at Norway, graduating in 1960.

She married Henry LaFrance on Dec. 9, 1962.

For 27 years, Edith worked at Cornwall Wood Products in the staining department. She had also worked at SnoCraft in Norway and most recently Norway Laundry, from where she retired in March of 2014.

She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, playing cards, Yahtzee and reading. Edith was an avid Red Sox fan and also loved cats.

Surviving are her husband of Norway; two sons, Kerry LaFrance of Norway and Shannon LaFrance and his wife, Debbie, of West Paris; a daughter, Janelle Wilcox of West Paris; four brothers, Leslie Gatchell and his wife, Betty, of Jay, George Gatchell and his wife, Jeannene, of South Paris, Harold “Bucky” Gatchell of Worcester, Mass., and Rusty Frothingham and his wife, Nancy, of Biddeford and Arizona; her special sister-in-law, Shirley LaFrance of Norway; and four grandchildren, Jeremy Wilcox, Jessica Wilcox, Brady LaFrance and Parker LaFrance.

The family wishes to send a very special thank-you to the staff at Norway Center for Rehabilitation and Living, Stephens Memorial Hospital and the Ledgeview Living Center for the excellent care Edith received.
