1923 – 2015

AUBURN — Gloria C. Wilkinson, 91, of Auburn died Thursday, Jan. 15, at Clover Health Care Facility following a long illness.

She was born in Auburn on Oct. 20, 1923, the daughter of the late George and Grace (Long) Varney, and had been a resident of this community all of her life.

She was employed as a matron at the Auburn Police Department and later as a receptionist at Mechanic Savings Bank until her retirement.

Gloria was a very caring and devoted mother to her son, Kenny. Kenny was killed in a racing accident in the mid 1980s at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway.

She enjoyed crafts and painting. She was very talented. She loved Christmas and was known for giving very unique gifts. A most cherished and memorable gift she gave was a black light and black light posters to her nephews, Shawn and Scott Sawyer.

She was very much loved and will be missed dearly.

She is survived by her sister, Marcheta Sawyer and her husband, Phillip, of Norway; her granddaughter, Sarah Wilkinson of Texas; many nieces and nephews; and great- and great-great nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her only child, Kenneth Wilkinson.
