DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Woman’s Literary Union of Androscoggin County at 19 Elm St. in Auburn is a nonprofit whose mission is to promote the intellectual, educational and cultural advancement of its members and community.

In that regard, we have created the Fairy Godmother Prom Gown Giveaway project in which we collect donated, cleaned or new, prom gowns that we give away to girls attending a formal dance or prom. Last year we collected 255 gowns. We expect to start collecting more gowns soon.

We are desperately in need of tall coat racks or gown racks to hold all these gowns. Last year we borrowed racks and still did not have enough. Anyone wishing to donate racks or gowns, please contact me. Please help make this a great experience for the young women who attend this event. — Denise, 207-753-0931, denisescammon@gmail.com.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: There was a story in the Jan. 3 Sun Journal about a woman named Sheila Knowles who collects antique sewing machines. I have one and would like to call her, but all I know is her name.

I was wondering if you could possibly find out her phone number. She is in Bath. Thanking you kindly, I am. — No Name, Lewiston

ANSWER: The story you saw was a new release about the antique show, not a reported story, so the Sun Journal didn’t have her information. Sun Spots emailed Paul, who runs the Bath Antique Show, and he emailed her Sheila’s phone number, which is 207-458-4415. That exchange indicates she lives in the Augusta area.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Is there anyone on the greater Rumford area who does leather reupholstery? Or in Oxford or Franklin counties? Thank you. — Earle via email

ANSWER: Sun Spots is including two categories from her Rolodex. The first is for upholsterers. The second is for those who work with leather.

Not knowing exactly what kind of object you need worked on, it’s difficult for her to weed them out. But hopefully somebody listed will be able to help.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I enjoy reading your column every day, but I didn’t think I would ever have to use it. However, here I am!

I am in need of Read Heart Super Saver knitting worsted yarn, color Windsor blue. It is no longer being sold in the stores, and I need only a small amount to finish the last row of a prayer shawl.

If anyone has some to share, please call me. Many thanks! — Bobbie Fogg, Farmington, 207-778-4429
