Project update to be given at City Council meeting today
LEWISTON — Pettingill School Park may be covered in snow, but don’t let that fool you into thinking that nothing is happening. Members covered a lot of ground in their steering committee meeting earlier this week, and plans are now underway to begin various park improvements in the spring.
On Tuesday, Jan. 20, committee officers will go before the Lewiston City Council in workshop to present an update on the project and answer questions. The public can attend the meeting which begins at 6 p.m. at City Hall in the council chambers, or watch it on television or the Internet. The City of Lewiston Computer Tech Dave Gudas has provided instructions below on how to watch the proceedings at home.
At this week’s meeting, members reviewed the minutes of the previous meeting where they discussed the planting of trees, removal of some fences, placement of signs and trashcans, etc. A plan to create a donation form was also discussed and Anne Auer will be making further revisions and will then develop a Web-compatible version.
The Lenny Breau Memorial Scholarship Concert held its final event in November, and the group behind that project has agreed to turn the proceeds as well as its reserve accounts totaling over $8,000 to Friends of Pettingill in order to build a park pergola in honor of Lenny.
Organizers would like to thank Denny and Anne Breau for their steadfast support of the park. The pergola will be used for various purposes including meetings, picnics and outdoor performances.
A six-DVD set of the concert is available at store.billstuff.com/storefrontprofiles/deluxesfitemdetail.aspx?sfid=91411&c=144027&i=325774215.
The recent LegoLandia fundraising event at the Lewiston Public Library brought in over $1,000. Thanks go out to Anne, John and Emma Auer, and Carolyn Court for all their hard work.
Judy Andrucki and Rep. Peggy Rotundo have worked out a tentative agreement with the city on shared responsibilities to improve and maintain the park. This is likely to be an important part of the city council workshop. The committee expects to have some final concept drawings from Mitch Rasor of MRLD Landscape Architecture + Urbanism to share with city council members. Finally, Treasurer Carolyn Court will make a presentation on current finances.
Watch the meeting on TV/online
Here are instructions from Dave Gudas on the various ways of watching the Friends of Pettingill / Lewiston City Council workshop at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20.
The workshop and meeting will viewable live on Time Warner Cable TV (Channel 7). Satellite, such as Dish and DirectTV, do not broadcast GFTV. It will also be streamed live via Great Falls TV website, www.greatfallstv.net. Click on the Webstream & VOD link. Archived meetings are also available for viewing there.
Note to Apple iPhone and iPad users: Right now GFTV hosts the meetings in Flash format, which PCs support and Apple doesn’t. To accommodate the Apple product users, GFTV had subscribed to a second service that converted and hosted the meetings in an Apple format; however, this service was dropped due to budget constraints. This means that iPhone users lost the ability to view the meetings, and unfortunately it affected iPad users as well. It may still work on Apple Mac computers.
