1959 – 2015
AUBURN — Alfred “Al” Hemond, 55, of Minot passed away Friday, Jan. 16, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Al was born on March 11, 1959, in Lewiston, the son of George Hemond and Florance (Bean) Hemond Foss. Al graduated with honors from Edward Little High School in 1977 and went on to graduate from Central Maine Vocational Technical Institute in 1984.
In his younger years, he worked for his father’s excavation business as a heavy equipment operator. After graduation, Al worked for the Auburn Energy Recovery Plant as a supervisor and high-pressure boiler operator, but for most of his life, he worked for his brother, Donald, as a mechanic at Hemond’s Garage in Minot.
Al was an avid New York Giants fan. He enjoyed camping, boating, fishing, scale-model building and playing pool and ping-pong.
Al is survived by one son, Derek Hemond of Portland; his significant other, Lisa Michaud-Jackson of Minot; one sister and five brothers, Brian Foss and wife, Denise, of West Minot, Edward Hemond of Lakeland, Fla., Raymond Hemond and wife, Ella, of Concord, N.H., Donald Hemond and wife, Serae, of Minot, Rose Hemond-Marcoux and husband, James, of Minot, Albert Hemond and wife, Jannine, of Minot; as well as 12 nieces and nephews; and 11 grandnieces and grandnephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; and his wife, Debbie Hemond.
He will be greatly missed by all, including his friends at Moose Pond Campground.
