1945 – 2015

LEWISTON — Barbara G. Gurney, 69, of Poland, passed away Saturday, Jan. 17, at Central Maine Medical Center.

Barbara was born in Casco on Aug. 26, 1945, a daughter of John A. and Grace (Harmon) Malier. She attended Casco schools and graduated from Casco High School.

She married Richard E. Gurney on Aug. 24, 1963, and was a homemaker all of her life. She also cared for many children over many years. Barbara was a bingo enthusiast and loved Elvis Presley. A most memorable time was a trip she made to Graceland. Spending time with her grandchildren was most important to her.

Surviving are two sons, Irwin “Chuck” Gurney and his wife, Jennifer, of Leeds, and Chris Gurney and his wife, Karen, of Minot; two brothers, Patrick Malier and his wife, Louise, of Auburn, and Ted Malier of Lewiston; four sisters, Dorothy Rolfe of Casco, Josephine Malier and her friend, Ruth Overrein, of Troy, Pa., Sylvia Swanson of Casco, and Pam Komulainen and her husband, Dan, of South Paris; seven grandchildren, Josh Clifford, Ian Gurney, Amanda Gurney, Stephen Gurney, Brittany Gurney, Sydney Gurney and Brayden Gurney; four great-grandchildren, Shaelyn Clifford, Liam Morrison, Mariyah Gurney and Mathieu Knight; and her sister-in-law, Faye Follett and her husband, Richard, of Leesburg, Fla.

She was predeceased by her husband, who died on Nov. 29, 2006; her daughter, Lori Gurney; a brother, John Malier; and a sister, Olive Tripp.
