1920 – 2015
LEWISTON — Florence J. Jacques, 94, of 102 Campus Ave. and formerly of Noble Street in Lewiston, died on Friday, Jan. 16, at D’Youville Pavilion following a long illness.
She was born in St. Francis Xavier, Quebec, Canada, on Aug. 28, 1920, the daughter of the late Oliver and Alice (Roux) Delisle, and had been a resident of this community for most of her life.
She was married to Rene O. Jacques; he died in 2000.
She started working at Clark Shoe at 16 years old and worked until they closed the shop at the age of 60. She continued at Dory Shoe until they closed a year and a half later.
Following retirement, Florence enjoyed her home and also enjoyed walking three to five miles a day. She was affectionately known in the neighborhood as the “Walking Lady.”
She also enjoyed senior trips with the Holy Cross Seniors, shopping and going out to eat.
She is survived by a nephew and godson, Patrick Delisle of Broken Arrow, Okla.; a sister-in-law, Mildred Jacques of Lewiston; her caregiver and special friend, Cecile Mathieu of Lewiston; and several other nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her husband and her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Ernest Delisle.
