1919 – 2015

AUBURN — Aileen E. Harnden, 95, formerly of Gamage Avenue in Auburn, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 21, at the Hospice House, surrounded by her family.

She was born in Lewiston on April 20, 1919, a daughter of the late Charles and Amy (Kilgore) Enman. She grew up in the Auburn area and attended local schools; she was a graduate of Edward Little High School, Class of 1937.

On Jan. 14, 1940, at the Elm Street Universalist Church, she married William B. Harnden and together, the two of them started a family. Aileen spent most of her years tending to her family and their home. She found much gratitude in that. She was also very active in the Robin Dow Senior Citizens in Auburn.

She enjoyed reading, walking, knitting and sewing. She also enjoyed bus trips, especially the ones to Washington, D.C., for her love of both history and the lovely sights of the apple blossoms in bloom.

She is survived by her children, Bradford Harnden of Farmingdale, Judith True and her husband, Michael Moore, of Walnut Creek, Calif., and William Harnden and his wife, Diane (Berube) Harnden, of Auburn. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Shawn Parent, Matthew Harnden and his wife, Lindsay (Shinners) Harnden and Michael and Angela True; as well as two great-grandchildren, Maya and Austin; and a niece, Patricia Spire, of San Diego, Calif.
