1917 – 2015
RUMFORD — Alice E. Gould, 97, of Rumford and formerly of Mexico, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, at the Rumford Community Home.
She was born in Rumford on Nov. 17, 1917, a daughter of David and Charlotte (McKay) McDonald, and attended Mexico schools. Alice worked for several years at Livermore Shoe and then for many years as a chambermaid at Madison’s Motor Inn in Rumford, until 1977.
She was a member of Le Paresseux Snowshoe Club.
Alice was married in Rumford Center on July 4, 1937, to Erwin Elliott Gould; he died in Rumford on Nov. 17, 1963.
Survivors include three daughters, Patricia Dyer and her husband, Kenneth, of Florida, Mary Whitehouse and her husband, Robert, of Mexico and Julie Melanson and her husband, Richard, of Rumford; sons, Archie Gould and his wife, Sue, of Mexico and Michael Gould and his wife, Lynn, of Mexico; sisters, Barbra Gerrier of Rumford and Theresa Montoya of Arizona; 19 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by three daughters, Linda Bernard, Paula Gould and Ellen Carey; two sons, Paul and Erwin; sisters, Olivine Wilson, Esther McDonald, Flora Hoyt and Catherine “Cappy” Litalian; and two brothers, John and Francis McDonald.
