DEAR SUN SPOTS: Could you find out who services Monitor heaters in the Auburn-Lewiston area? Ron Cote was servicing these heaters, but it appears has gone out of business. Thank you for the excellent service you provide. — Ron M. via email

ANSWER: Sun Spots doesn’t have that category in her Rolodex, but here are some options she found online. Hopefully one of them will work out, or perhaps a reader will want to recommend someone.

* Frederick Bros. Oil and Propane, Scarborough, 207-883-2551, [email protected]

* Perfect Plumbing and Heating Inc., Lyman, 207-324-0937, perfect heating.com, [email protected]

* Webber Supply, Portland, 877-699-3596, 207-767-0201, and Augusta, 207-620-8504, 888-685-6755, www.webbersupply.com

* Winthrop Fuel Co. Inc., Winthrop, 207-377-8414 (Sun Spots doesn’t know anything about this business, but the owner is very nice. He leaves an outdoor faucet open all year for people to get drinking water — free!)

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Could you find out please why they do not plow out the scenic overlook in Rangeley during the winter months? It is beautiful there and so much nicer in the summer as the cars can get off the road to take pictures or just a break from driving. But in the winter it is as dangerous, as the cars now stop on the side of the road. — No Name via email

ANSWER: Sun Spots spoke to Earl in Rangeley’s Highway Department. He noted that you did not specify the location so he can’t be sure, but he said that the overlook on Route 17 is private and not the town’s responsibility.

He thought it might be owned by the Heritage Trust. If that’s the case, it may be a matter of resources — having a plow truck or paying someone to see to it.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I do not have any information about the Prides Corner Fire Department badge (Jan. 21 letter), but I have suggestions on where to look for information.

There is a Westbrook Historical Society and the public library, the Walker Memorial Library. They may have information about the old fire department in their holdings.

One particular source might be the city of Westbrook’s annual reports. (For a few years, the Lewiston annual reports included the names of all the members of the fire department’s different companies.)

Another source might be city directories that might include the occupations of individuals. However, if the Prides Corner Hose Company were a company made up of volunteers, the occupation listed might be the full-time one. — Doug Hodgkin, [email protected]

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Holy Savior Parish/School in Rumford will be hosting an alumni event in the spring. Anyone who went to St. Athanasius, St. Theresa, St. John or Holy Savior Schools and would like to be part of this event is encouraged to send contact information to [email protected] or call the school at 364-2528.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: You helped me in the past. I hope you can this time.

I’m looking for a paperback book, Coats and Clark, Book No. 170-B, “Learn How Book for Crocheting, Knitting, Tatting and Embroidery.” I have misplaced mine in moving.

I will pay for it, plus postage if needed. Thank you. — C. Park, PO Box 363, South Paris, ME 04281 (no phone!)

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I want to give a special thank-you to my mother-in-law for taking the time to write to you to help us get enough stamps to get our granddaughter the pots and pans from Shaw’s. And thank you so much to those who took the time to mail the stamps for us. — Irene, Bailey and Ian

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Turner Street Community Church has a black upright Blackmor piano to give away (it does have some missing ivories, but is currently being used for Sunday services this winter). Moving the piano is up to whoever wants it. Please contact me for more information. — Janet, 784-2164
