1917 – 2015
FARMINGTON — Percy Denis Ouellette, 97, a resident of Livermore Falls, passed away Saturday, Jan. 31, at Sandy River Center in Farmington.
He was born in Van Buren on Oct. 9, 1917, the son of John B. and Emma (Cantin) Ouellette. He was educated in the Jay schools.
He married Doris V. Duguay on April 22, 1946, at St. Rose of Lima Church in Chisholm. They were married 69 years.
He was a proud World War II veteran and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Pacific Theatre.
Percy was a member of the Frank L. Mitchell V.F.W. Post 3335 in Jay and served as vice commander; he was also a life member of Amvets Post 33 in Jay. He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 320 and served as a color guard.
He worked for International Paper at the Otis and Androscoggin Mills in Jay and was employed as lead man in the electrical department until his retirement in 1980.
He enjoyed cutting wood on his father’s wood lot, fishing with his father, gardening and building his new home. He also enjoyed country music, card games and picture puzzles.
He was made an honorary life member of Disabled American Veterans in Jay for his many hours of volunteer work he gave to them making plastic names of all the members to put on the wall. He was a Eucharistic minister and hospitality greeter and usher and passed the collection basket and was a money-counter of the weekly collection. He was a well-known volunteer of the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Percy enjoyed volunteering at the Livermore Falls Grammar School, Parkview Nursing Home and Jay-Livermore Falls Senior Citizens.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Ouellette of Livermore Falls; two daughters, Emily Fauk and her husband, Mark, of Newnan, Ga., and Helen Hobbs and her husband, Michael, of Jay; three grandchildren, Vanessa and Joseph Todhunter, Nathan and Brittany Fauk, and Brandon and Jennifer Hobbs; one great-grandson, Cameron Todhunter; and four great-granddaughters, Abriana and Alana Todhunter and Haley and Casey-Jo Fauk; his brother, Adrien Ouellette and wife, Barbara, of New Hampshire; and many nieces, nephews and in-laws.
He was predeceased by his parents, mother, Emma, in 1963 and father, John B., in 1965; brothers, Paul Emile, Roland, Lucien, Laurier and Aurel Ouellette; and sisters, Dorothy Cyr and Pauline Berube.
