LEWISTON — William A. Ferentz, 82, of Lewiston and formerly of Windham, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice in Auburn after a brief illness.

Born in Ridley Park, Pa., he was the son of Anthony and Edythe Ferentz and the younger brother of Jack Ferentz. He attended Clifton, N.J., schools.

After moving back to Maine in 1971, he worked for many years for the McCrory-McLellan-Green department store chain as store manager in Lewiston, Windham and Westbrook. Prior to 1971, he had lived and worked throughout the Northeast with the same company.

He drew great enjoyment and strength from his active membership in the Lisbon United Methodist Church and its community where, for many years, he sang in the choir. Always the consummate handyman, he enjoyed maintaining his own home and helping close friends with their needs.

Survivors include daughters, Barbara Skehan and her husband, Charles, of Chelsea and Laura Libby and her husband, Matt, of Cape Elizabeth; sons, William G. Ferentz and his wife, Victoria, of Cumberland and Robert Ferentz and his wife, Dawn, of Harrisburg, N.C.; former spouse, Barbara Ferentz of Windham; as well as his eight grandchildren.

The family would like to express their deep appreciation for the extraordinary care he received from the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice in Auburn and St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Lewiston.
