UPDATED 1:47 P.M.: YORK — State Police have reported several crashes on the Maine Turnpike on Monday morning.

At 11:15 a.m., Troopers reported a tractor trailer and a car colliding between York and Wells at Mile 13. Two of the three northbound lanes were blocked, according to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland.

State Police also reported several crashes on the turnpike and Interstate 95 on Monday morning. At one point, multiple crashes near York closed traffic. It later reopened.

One of the crashes involved a tractor-trailer truck that hit two cars from behind in the northbound lanes. McCausland said Theodore Banks, 74, of Virginia was driving the truck too fast for the conditions.

One of the car passengers received slight injuries. The car drivers were identified as Thomas Kwok of South Portland and Samuel Farmer of Ormond Beach, Fla.

Because travel is expected to deteriorate during the rest of the day, Troopers are advising motorists to slow down and plan accordingly.
