AUBURN — The next meeting of the Auburn Art Club will be held in the Tenants’ Harbor Room at Schooner Estates at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9.
The speaker will be artist Ulla Hansen. She was born in Denmark and, as a child, watched her father, who was an artist, paint. She especially liked paintings with roads that made her want to “go there” and see more. She says that she could not draw or paint herself.
She emigrated to the United States and upon visiting Denmark in later years, she discovered some paintings of her father’s that she did not know existed. By this time, she was 50 years old and decided to try one last time to learn the fine art of painting when she got back to Maine. To her surprise, she found that she really enjoyed taking classes and decided her medium was pastels. She enjoys teaching children and others who say, “I could never do that.”
Hansen graduated from Loma Linda University in California and now lives in Poland with her dogs and horses. She is especially fond of painting scenes from Acadia National Park.
Beth Bell is chairman and will be assisted by Ruth Farnsworth and Elaine Sylvester. Members are reminded to see Louise Reynolds to make a reservation for the annual meeting in May.
