NORWAY — The Center for Ecology Based Economy will be hasting a First Friday Art Opening for Peter Herley’s”Out of Gilead,”  show from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 6 , at 447 Main St.  After 19 years in Eugene, Ore., Herley relocated back to Norway. “Out of Gilead,” is a collection of his most recent mixed medium works on paper.

Herley was originally from New Jersey and studied art Rutgers. After receiving his BFA he “went on the road for a year after graduating, and created political art for the plights of the homeless.” After that, he moved to New York City and has shown work all over the world for the past 30 years. When he talks about his art he describes “the shapes, along with the bright and dark colors, represent the people, places and things I encounter from day to day. I try to convey tidbits of conversations I have with people and the energy I observe when people interact with one another. I’m hopeful that these pieces of work will capture the emotions and thoughts of viewers as they contemplate life through my paintings.”

Herley was one of the founding members of E.S.A.P in Oregon, which began as the Eugene Storefront Art Project and morphed into the Eugene Springfield Art Project. (www.eugenespringfieldartproject.org
