1937 – 2015
AUBURN — Jack A. Libby, 77, a resident of Wilton, passed away following a short illness on Tuesday, Feb. 3, surrounded by his loving family at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice.
He was born in Lewiston on Feb. 14, 1937, a son of Kenneth Libby and Carolyn (Hobbs) Libby. He graduated from the Leavitt Institute in 1955. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1959. On Jan. 29, 1960, in Turner, he married Judy Ware.
Jack worked at Bass Shoe for 27 years and was later employed by SAD 9, from which he retired as a custodian after 13 years. Jack coached youth sports’ baseball and basketball and he enjoyed following Mt. Blue sporting events, collecting baseball caps, gardening and cocker spaniel dogs.
He was a gifted musician and vocalist, playing the drums — originally old standards — then country rock. He played in many of the area clubs and at the Dutch Treat yearly benefit.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Judy Libby, of Wilton; two sons, Kirk Libby of Wilton and Daniel Libby and domestic partner, Carolyn, of Strong; his daughter, Kelli Howes and her husband, Steve, of Jay; his granddaughter, Michele Munson and her husband, Adam McIntyre, of Arizona; his grandson, Michael Deming, of Strong; his great-grandson, Jeremy McIntyre, of Arizona; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; grandson, Jeremy Munson; and brothers, Lloyd, Jessie and Kenneth Libby.
