WASHINGTON, D.C. — The New England 2014 Sweet Corn Production Summary is as follows.

Connecticut sweet corn production is estimated at 260 thousand cwt (hundredweight), up 11 percent from the 2013 estimate. The average yield per acre is estimated at 65 cwt, unchanged from 2013. Area harvested is estimated at 4,000 acres, up 11 percent from last year. The value of production totaled 9.62 million dollars, up 5 percent from 2013.

Maine sweet corn production is estimated at 112 thousand cwt, up 35 percent from the 2013 estimate. The average yield per acre is estimated at 70 cwt, 15 cwt above the 2013 average yield of 55 cwt per acre. Area harvested is estimated at 1,600 acres, up 7 percent from last year. The value of production totaled 5.04 million dollars, up 19 percent from 2013.

Massachusetts sweet corn production is estimated at 284 thousand cwt, down 2 percent from the 2013 estimate. The average yield per acre is estimated at 66 cwt, 4 cwt above from the 2013 average yield of 62 cwt per acre. Area harvested is estimated at 4,300 acres, down 9 percent from last year. The value of production totaled 14.2 million dollars, down 6 percent from 2013.

New Hampshire sweet corn production is estimated at 91 thousand cwt, down 6 percent from the 2013 estimate. The average yield per acre is estimated at 65 cwt, 4 cwt below the 2013 average yield of 69 cwt per acre. Area harvested is estimated at 1,400 acres, unchanged from last year. The value of production totaled 5.0 million dollars, down 13 percent from 2013.

Rhode Island sweet corn production is estimated at 46 thousand cwt. The average yield per acre is estimated at 66 cwt. Area harvested is estimated at 690 acres. The value of production totaled 2.4 million dollars.

Vermont sweet corn production is estimated at 46 thousand cwt. The average yield per acre is estimated at 51 cwt. Area harvested is estimated at 910 acres. The value of production totaled 3.1 million dollars.

Estimates for other New England Vegetable crops are scheduled to be published in March 2015.
