1933 – 2015
AUBURN — Clifton W. Thompson Jr., 81, of Greene went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Hospice House surrounded by his family and friends.
He was born on March 4, 1933, in Friendship, a son of the late Clifton W. and Annie (Carter) Thompson Sr. Cliff attended Auburn schools and graduated from Edward Little High School in 1951. During his high school career, he played football and track, which fostered a love of sports throughout his life.
In April of 1952, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed on the aircraft carrier USS Randolph.
On June 5, 1953, he married the love of his life, Inez Lenore Bubier in Hampton, N.H. They lived and raised their three children in Greene.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and was happiest when surrounded by his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed the special bond with his sisters and brothers-in-law.
Cliff was an active member of the Monmouth Masonic Lodge, where he was a past grand master. He was also a long-time member of the South Lewiston Baptist Church, where he helped out weekly in the Children’s Youth Ministry, which he really enjoyed.
He enjoyed his weekly “date nights” with his dear friend, Marge Barton, every Thursday night at the Chickadee. He enjoyed golfing at the Highlands with his many friends and his son Greg. In the fall, Cliff loved going to the Friday night football games at Leavitt with his friends and family, and in the winter he followed the Leavitt girls’ basketball team. He really loved sports and was a dedicated supporter of the Leavitt ski team when his granddaughters were skiing on the team, and he was always there at the finish line of their races.
His life centered around his family. For many years, he was a dedicated and loving caregiver to his wife, Inez, who passed away in May 1997.
His survivors include a son, Greg and his wife, Meredith, of Turner; daughters, Karin Fogg and her husband, Rob, of Lewiston, Kelly Annear and her husband, Douglas, of Greene; three grandchildren, Jamie Pepin and her husband, Paul, of Livermore, Casey Cote and her husband, David, of Eustis and Ethan Annear of Greene and his fiancée Meagan Gallop of Monmouth; two great-grandchildren, Bryce and Mason Cote; three sisters, Barbara Bremer, Nancy Bell and Brenda Stone and husband, Jim; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Inez; and a brother, Jack Thompson.
The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the staff of the Hospice House for the care and devotion that was shown to Cliff and his family during his final days.
