1936 – 2015
FARMINGTON — Druscilla Ann Danala, 78, of Farmington passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, Feb. 3, at Sandy River Center for Healthcare in Farmington.
Dru was born Nov. 13, 1936, in Dixfield. Daughter of Garfield and Constance (Gardner) Defoe, she enjoyed the childhood of a doctor’s daughter. She graduated from Dixfield High School. She then attended Green Mountain college and completed a two-year degree and moved to California.
While living in California, she met James V. Danala, and they were married in 1973. In 1981, they moved to Farmington to be near family. Dru and Jim remained in Farmington, living in the same house where they raised their son, James “Jimmy.”
She worked as an ed-tech at local schools in the Special Education Department.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints of the Farmington Ward, volunteering countless hours in many different capacities. Dru loved helping others. It was not uncommon for her to be seen writing letters or visiting those who were in need of a friendly smile and a helping hand.
She also enjoyed knitting and shopping with her friends. She loved to read to her young grandchildren and would do so at any opportunity. To her family, she will always be remembered as foremost a homemaker, loving mother, grandmother and wife.
Dru is survived by her husband, Jim; her children, Deborah Price and husband, Anthony, of California; Emereth E. Griffin and his wife, Bridgotte, of Texas, and James “Jimmy” Danala and his wife, Leah, of Strong; six grandchildren, Amanda, Meradee, Chaye Madison, Phillip James, Isabelle and Kaitlin; a great-grandchild, Taylor; sister, Deborah Townsend of Stratton; brother, Gardner Defoe of Kingfield; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She touched the lives of so many, loved by all, never to be forgotten. She will be missed.
