1956 – 2015
LEWISTON — Kenneth G. Hodgkins Jr., 58, of Lisbon, passed away Friday afternoon, Feb. 6, at his home, while doing something he loved: Preparing the house for a church outing.
He was born in Bath on Feb. 27, 1956, a son of the late Kenneth G. and Bessie (Parsons) Hodgkins Sr. He grew up in the area and attended local schools, graduating from Mt. Ararat High School, Class of 1974, and the University of Maine in Orono, Class of 1978.
After college, he helped run a cleaning company with his dad for several years, before receiving his real estate license. He was self-employed as the owner of K and K Property Management and Bug Beaters Pest Control for the past 25 years. During that time, he married his wife, Karen (Gehner), on April 15, 1989, at their home in Lisbon.
Ken will always be remembered for his love of the outdoors, including snowshoeing, geocaching and hiking. Most nights, he could be found watching whatever Boston sports game was on, with a huge bowl of ice cream and several games of Words With Friends going.
He was a true gentleman known for his kindness and generosity. His church and Savior were very important to him. He was extremely active at Lisbon Falls Baptist, where he was on the board of trustees, participated in the choir and taught several years of Sunday school.
He is survived by his loving wife, Karen Hodgkins, of Lisbon; and his five children, Katelyn Latouche and her husband, Jordan, of Houghton, N.Y., Kenneth G. Hodgkins III of Portland, Nathan Hodgkins of Lubec, Charles “Matt” Smith and his wife, Pamela, of Lisbon and Jason Smith and his wife, Meredith Swisher, of Needham, Mass. He also leaves behind three sisters, Bonnie Kirk and her husband, Frank, of Ohio, Barbara Goodwin of Texas and Rita Dumont of North Carolina; as well as three grandchildren, Harmony, Hayden and Jacob Smith.
He was predeceased by his brother, Armand “Butch” Roy.
