1924 – 2015
AUBURN — Clarence Tolman Bonney, 90, a resident of Minot, passed away peacefully at the Clover Manor Health Care facility on Monday, Feb. 9.
He was born in Hartford on July 28, 1924, the eldest son of Tolman Bessey Bonney and Eda Brown Bonney. He graduated from Buckfield High School in 1942.
He served for three years in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, rising to the rank of staff sergeant, including two years of overseas duty. He was proud of having traveled around the world on his military journey to and from Burma, where he was in charge of generators powering landing lights for cargo planes “flying the hump” to China.
He married Theresa Marie Richard on Oct. 31, 1949. With her help, he opened his own business repairing and selling radios and televisions on Court Street in Auburn in 1950, and operated Bonney’s TV on Center Street in Auburn from 1955 to 1986, when they retired to Minot.
He was an avid Red Sox and Bruins fan and enjoyed fishing and traveling. He was a communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish and a member of its Golden Age Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Bonney Olin (William); grandchildren, Theresa Olin, Jeffrey Olin and Angela St. Pierre Mayer (Richard); great-granddaughter, Emily Marie Mayer; brother-in-law, Gerard Richard (Annette); sisters-in-law, Nancy Bonney, Joyce Richard and Rachel Akin (Carl); and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Theresa; his parents; daughter, Marie St. Pierre; brothers, Vernon and Eugene Bonney; brothers-in-law, Donald and Emile Richard; and sisters-in-law, Annette Richard and Claudia Gilbert.
