FARMINGTON — Regional School Unit 9 directors appointed a Fayette man Tuesday night to become the new director of support services for the district.

Jonathan Chalmers was among 12 candidates who applied for the vacant position.

Former Director David Leavitt left the district in December for a job in RSU 54 in the Skowhegan area. He had been with RSU 9 for 33 years.

Members of the RSU 9 board’s Administrator Evaluation Committee reviewed the applications and conducted interviews. Superintendent Tom Ward assisted them.

Ward highly recommended Chalmers for the position.

Chalmers had worked with Ward in RSU 10 in the Rumford/Mexico area, where he was the assistant director of transportation and maintenance. Before that, he was the director of transportation and maintenance in SAD 39 in the Buckfield area.

As director of support services in RSU 9, Chalmers will oversee bus drivers, custodians, facilities and grounds.
