1935 – 2015

RUMFORD — Carmel Collette Rioux, 79, of Gilbert Avenue, passed away at her residence on Wednesday, Feb. 11, with loving family at her side following a brief illness.

She was born in Rumford on June 12, 1935, a daughter of Joseph S. and Octavie (Goulet) Collette.

Carmel was educated in Rumford schools and was a graduate of Stephens High School, Class of 1953. She was a communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior.

Carmel married John Rioux on Aug. 18, 1956. Together, they celebrated 48 years of marriage; he passed away on Dec. 29, 2004.

She was a former member of the Daughters of Isabella.

Carmel loved knitting and family trips to Canada. The most precious thing in her life was family.

Surviving are her children, Susan Rioux of Rumford, June Hyjek and husband, Peter, of Willington, Conn., and Jack Rioux and wife, Lori, of Winthrop; two sisters, Jeanne Collette of Rumford and Louise Mangarelli of Rumford; a brother, Maurice Collette; six grandchildren, Jenifer, Jason, Jacob, Jonathan, Amber and Andy; five great-grandchildren; and two nephews, Mike and Matt Mangarelli.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, John; two sons, James and Joseph; a granddaughter, Jo-Ann; a sister, Yvette; and a brother, Roland.
