1945 – 2015
AUBURN — Steven E. Esty, 70, of Jay, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, surrounded by his loving family at the Hospice House in Auburn.
Steve was born Feb. 8, 1945, a son of Ralston and Mary (Burbank) Esty. He attended Wilton Academy, graduating in 1965.
Upon graduation, Steve entered the U.S. Army, honorably serving his country during the Vietnam War.
Upon his discharge from the Army, he returned to Jay where he was employed at International Paper. Steve then went on to work for Hilltop Collision Center for 23 years until his retirement in 2012.
Steve was an independent man with a dry sense of humor. He was a homebody who enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandsons. He took pride in his coin collection, had an interest in classic cars, enjoyed snowmobiling, and a big passion in his life was riding his Harley. Steve was a member of the United Bikers of Maine and enjoyed riding locally.
He is survived by his three children, Melissa Ward and her husband, Peter, of Steep Falls, Michael Esty and his wife, Lana, of Livermore, and Melinda Potvin and her husband, Daniel, of Leeds; grandsons, Matthew, Cameron and Nicholas Esty, and Dylan and Alexander Potvin; sisters, Gloria Nile and her husband, Dick, of Wilton and Sherian Judd of Livermore; uncle, Almont Burbank and his wife, Katherine; many nieces and nephews; a special friend, Elaine Crowley of Virginia; the gang at Hilltop; and his beloved granddog, Jade.
He was predeceased by his parents; and brothers (Baby) Ralston Esty Jr. and Henry Esty.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Steve’s sister, Gloria, for her care and support and to the staff at Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice in Auburn.
