LEWISTON — The YWCA has announced that three new members have been elected to its Board of Directors.

Carrie Mastrogiacomo is a graduate of the University of Maine at Machias where she majored in environmental education. She currently works at The Mastrogiacomo Law Office with her husband, attorney Matt Mastrogiacomo. Most importantly, Carrie and Matt are the parents of a child that has been attending the YWCA’s preschool program for the past two years. This gives Carrie first-hand knowledge of the preschool and swim programs and will be a valuable resource as the Y continues to evaluate and expand its programming.

Susan Chase Baltrus recently retired from an impressive career at Central Maine Medical Center College of Nursing and Health Professions. She began her career as a nursing instructor, later became the director of the college and then its president before retiring in July 2014. She has a degree from St. Joseph’s College with a Bachelor of Science in professional arts (concentration in nursing and business administration) and a Master of Science degree in nursing from the University of Southern Maine.

Baltrus currently serves on the Maine State Board of Nursing and is a site visitor for the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission/Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing. The YWCA is pleased to have Sue’s broad board experience as it develops new board policies and its next strategic plan.

Christina King is a recent graduate of the University of Southern Maine L/A with a BA in social and behavioral sciences. Chris worked at the YWCA as a volunteer doing coursework for one of her classes. She was instrumental in developing the Muslim Women’s Learn to Swim Program giving culturally sensitive instruction to Islamic women. The information gained from the class led to the development of a woman-only swim class beginning later in February. King was recently hired as a caseworker at Health Affiliates Maine.
