She was born in Brunswick on Feb.10, 1927, to Harry and Mary Emily Savage. She overcame a difficult childhood with her mother passing when she was no more than 4 or 5 years old. She and her younger sister went into state care when their father was no longer able to take care of them.
She found her happiness when she met her husband, Homer Tibbetts, while working at the old mill on Bridge Street in Yarmouth. They married and started a family. She was the loving mother of Marie, Linda, Emily and Tony.
She left the mill and became a stay-at-home mom, until her husband’s illness. She then went to work in housekeeping at Pineland Center in Pownal, eventually retiring from there.
After the passing of her husband, Homer Tibbetts, on Oct. 6, 1978, she married Francis Hewitt on March 14,1981, and they had many happy years together, until his death in January 2009.
In her younger years, she enjoyed traveling, dancing, yard sales, animals, flowers and digging dandelion greens. She loved just spending time with her family and being with people. She was kind, generous, considerate and loving.
