1943 – 2015
AUBURN — Raymond “Ray” J. August, 71, of South Paris, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 21, surrounded by his family at the Hospice House in Auburn.
He was born on June 21, 1943, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Raymond E. and Elizabeth (McClurg) August. He married Pamela (Pulsifer) Hodgkins on May 14, 1988.
He graduated from Parma High School, Parma Ohio, and Rochester Institute of Technology with a degree in graphic arts. His career was spent in the printing industry. He worked for many companies in Ohio and Maine throughout his life. He was an instructor at Central Maine Vocational Technical Institute teaching graphic arts. He also was owner of the Pinewood Press in Canton for many years.
He attended Oxford Hills Church of Christ, where he was blessed by hearing God’s word and by the love and support of the church family.
His interests included computers. He bought one of the first mass produced personal computers, a TRS-80. Many hours were spent learning programming. He was an avid baseball card collector and trader. He spent many days fishing on Canton and Norway Lakes with his wife and children. He also loved roller coasters, trains, history, museums and NASCAR. He loved his grandchildren, always enjoying time together.
Ray is survived by his loving wife, Pamela of South Paris; sons, Robert and wife, Pam, of Poland and Adam and girlfriend, Natasha Labranche, of South Paris; daughter, Jen August and husband, Michael Hynes, of Auburn; stepchildren, Rebecca and husband, Jason Cook, of Ashburn, Va., Daniel and wife, Samantha Hodgkins, of Gray and Matthew Hodgkins of South Paris; grandchildren, Michael and Margaret Hynes, Kaitlynn August and Benjamin Cook; two brothers, Scott R. August of Bowling Green, Ky., and John B. August of Gainesville, Fla.
He was predeceased by his parents; his father- and mother-in-law, Ardine and Mary Pulsifer; and granddaughter, Ruth Hynes.
