SCARBOROUGH — On Sunday, March 8, the members of Schooner Fare and Devonsquare, along with many of their musical friends, will reunite for a special concert to benefit the Jack McPhillips Memorial Fund. An annual event, this year’s concert will take place The Landing at Pine Point, 353 Pine Point Road in Scarborough.
McPhillips himself organized the first three reunion concerts almost four decades ago as a way to see his two favorite groups at the same time. With his untimely passing in 1981, the Jack McPhillips Memorial Fund was formed to continue his mission of good fun and humanitarianism on a local level.
The annual event has now grown to include a crop of talent inspired by these veteran songwriters and performers. This year’s concert includes: Schooner Fare, Devonsquare, Tom Dean, Alana MacDonald, Teg Glendon, Robbie Coffin, Don Campbell, Squid Jiggers, Tom Dyhrberg, Tom Ludwig, Denny Breau, and other guests.
Through the years the Devonsquare / Schooner Fare collective has suffered grievous losses. Jeff Rice, an original Devonsquare member, died in 1992. Tom Rowe, the drive and soaring high harmony of Schooner Fare passed in 2005. Herb Ludwig, another original Trio member and general bon vivant, died in 2005.
The doors will open at 2 p.m., and the concert begins at 3. Light fare will be served.
Tickets are $25 for balcony and front-row tables, all others are $22. Tickets are available now at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/1143177
