ANSWER: Let’s hope a reader has information as Sun Spots was unable to locate any vape shops in Auburn. For our readers who don’t know what a vape shop is, it is a shop that sells e-cigarettes which aren’t smoked but inhaled instead; thus the word “vape” as an abbreviated form of “vapor.” People who use e-cigs “vape” instead of “smoke.” Read Mark Laflamme’s story about vaping in the Sunday, March 1 bSection for information about vaping and local vape shops.

GOOD MORNING SUN SPOTS: I just saw the article with questions regarding Little Leagues in Auburn – I have some information that may be helpful. Last year there were four “Little Leagues” in the Lewiston-Auburn area: New Auburn, Auburn Suburban, Elliot and South Lewiston.

This year there are two Little Leagues and two other baseball programs. Auburn Suburban and South Lewiston are no longer part of the Little League organization. South Lewiston is now part of Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth and Auburn Suburban has not chartered yet with Cal Ripken but we have heard that they will be part of that organization.

Last year, each League had certain “boundaries” that you had to live in, in order to play at a certain League. This year the two remaining Little Leagues (New Auburn and Lewiston Little League) do not have boundary requirements.

If a child lives in or goes to school in Auburn he or she can play at New Auburn Little League. And, if they live in or go to school in Lewiston they can play at Lewiston Little League (formally Elliot Little League).

People may want to know what the difference is between Little League and Cal Ripken baseball. There is not a lot of difference between the two organizations as for “rules.”

Cal Ripken does not count actual “number of pitches” that a pitcher can throw in a game – Little League does count pitches.

Cal Ripken counts innings pitched.

Little League has a “mandatory play rule” for each player on the roster. This means that every player has to play in each game. He or she has to have one at bat and play two innings in the field.

Cal Ripken does not have a mandatory play rule.

For fees, each League can set their registration fee at whatever they want.

Here are the fees this year for each League:
