FAIRFIELD (AP) — Maine fire marshals said a man has been found dead in his burned-out car parked at a rest area along Route 201 in Fairfield.

A spokesman for the state Department of Public Safety said investigators believe the man doused himself with gasoline and set himself on fire Saturday morning. Spokesman Stephen McCausland said the man had called a friend saying he was going to kill himself.

McCausland said passing motorists reported the fire around 10 a.m.

The man was identified as 61-year-old William Wakefield of Skowhegan.
