ANSWER: From a press release dated Feb. 3, 2015 comes your answer: The nonprofit Falmouth Land Trust has just secured the rights to purchase Hurricane Valley Farm (currently known as Capall Creek Farm). Located in West Falmouth off of Gray Road (Routes 26/100) at the Falmouth/Cumberland border, this scenic property consists of 62 acres of open fields, farmland and wetlands. The project strives to preserve one of the best remaining examples of Falmouth’s rural character. The land is currently approved for a 17-house subdivision but recent conversations with owner Kevin Smith led to the Trust signing a purchase and sale agreement which would permanently protect this landmark property. … The Trust has until June 15th to raise the majority of the $700,000 needed to acquire and steward the land. DEAR SUN SPOTS: Bill Green described a style of mailbox that merely flipped around when hit by a plow and fell back in place unharmed. Can you find out where these are sold and the price. Thank you. — No Name, via email.

ANSWER: Sun Spots contacted Tim Gay of MailSwing Mailboxes and learned that MailSwing items cannot be purchased in stores. You can purchase online at www.mailswing.com or pick up at their shop at 37 Wiscasset Road, Pittston, Maine 04345. They are open by appointment only. They  have reduced prices for cash-and-carry customers who pick up their purchases. Pricing for a complete package which includes MailSwing, post and standard-size mailbox is $179.99 plus tax; for MailSwing and post: $169.99 plus tax; and for MailSwing only: $119.99 plus tax. Pricing on the website is a little higher as it includes shipping and handling. Other options include two and three box spreaders which enable you to share your MailSwing with your neighbor(s) and a newspaper box bracket attachment. If you have additional questions, call 207-588-0481. Maybe our readers can provide other sources of similar mailboxes that are built to withstand snow plows and vandals.
