Show of R-E-S-P-E-C-T at Lisbon High School

LISBON — Members of the Lisbon High School Project UNIFY group is holding a Respect Day on Wednesday, March 4, in conjunction with Spread the Word to End the R Word.

The program will include morning announcements promoting Respect Day/Spread the Word to End the R Word after the pledge every morning. Pledge sheets will be distributed in all student advocacy groups to engage participation throughout the school’s population.

Stories and related activities specifically addressing respect will be shared in advocacy groups on Thursday, March 5. Group discussions will be invited and students encouraged to share thoughts on how to be more respectful at school, home and in the greater community.

World Day of Prayer at Buckfield church

BUCKFIELD — The Buckfield Community Church will host a World Day of Prayer service at 1 p.m. Friday, March 6.

The program will be presented by the North Livermore Baptist Church women.

This year the service was written by women of the Bahamas and will be heard by people in services over the entire world on this day.

The public is welcome to attend.

‘Dumpster Diving’ in Lisbon Saturday

LISBON — The Dumpster Diving Divas from the Lisbon Community School PTO will be at the Lisbon Transfer Station from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 7, collecting Box Tops For Education and Labels for Education.

They will be joined by local Girl Scouts selling cookies from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Lenten dinner, movie on March 9

AUBURN — The Auburn United Methodist Church is presenting a Lenten Dinner and a Movie on Monday, March 9, at the the church, located at 439 Park Ave.

Soup and sandwiches will be served at 5:30 p.m. followed by a showing of the film “God is Not Dead.”

Winter recess over for Order of the Eastern Star

WALES — Lakeside Chapter No. 60, Order of the Eastern Star, will return from its winter recess for the annual meeting at the Grange/Masonic Hall, 322 Centre Road, at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10.

The annual meeting and election of officers will be preceded by a 6 p.m. potluck supper provided by the members.

Members are invited to come and show off a new recipe and enjoy the company of old friends. There may even be something new to celebrate.

The District Mascots, the Traveling Cuddlies, got caught in a winter storm and are still at Pine Cone Chapter in Auburn.

AUBURN — Monthly meetings of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Golden Age Club will resume on Wednesday, March 11, at Sacred Heart Church.

This will be the first meeting of the year, with installation of new officers and a short business meeting.

Social hour will be from 11 a.m. to noon, with cards and games available to those who wish to play.

At noon, an Irish boiled lunch with ice cream for dessert will be served. Cost is $5 per person.

Senior Citizens Cribbage League

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Senior Citizens Cribbage League winners at the Lewiston Memorial Armory on Feb. 26 were: first, Sandy Verrill and Val Asselin, second, Gene Brown and Arnie Burgess; third, Terry Chambers and Roger Labbe; fourth, Judy Sirois and Ed Madden; fifth, Anita Maheux and Gerry Roy.

The next game will be played at 9 a.m. Thursday, March 5.

Suicide prevention program at Zadoc library

BUCKFIELD — Zadoc Long Free Library will host two free workshops for adults on “Suicide Prevention-What We Need To Know” at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, and again at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 21.

The library is at 5 Turner St. It is the red building next door to Tilton’s Market on Route 117.

These one-hour-long sessions will be presented by Cheryl Morin from the JD Foundation in Abbott. Cheryl and her husband, Vic, tragically lost their son, JD, to suicide in 2012 and they and others created the nonprofit JD Foundation in their son’s memory and to help others learn about suicide prevention. Cheryl and Vic have conducted numerous training sessions around the state.

To attend either workshop, call Bonnie Santos, library director, at 336-2171 by March 11 to reserve a seat. Space is limited so it will be “first to call, first to have a reserved seat.”

Lewiston DAR chapter to meet March 11

LEWISTON — The Mary Dillingham Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 11, at Marco’s Restaurant, Mollison Way.

The speaker will be Bettyann Sheats. Prospective members are welcome.

Savvy Caregiver training offered

LEWISTON — SeniorsPlus announces Savvy Caregiver 1 training has been scheduled in Androscoggin County.

If you are caring for a family member with dementia, this training will help you learn how to take care of yourself and reduce stress, and also communicate more easily with your loved one.

This is a 6-week workshop that meets on Thursdays from March 11 to April 16. Each session lasts from 10 a.m. to noon and will be held at the Education Center, 8 Falcon Road.

This class is free but pre-registration is required.

Calvary to hold bean suppers

LEWISTON — Calvary Methodist Church will host a bean supper from 4:45 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 14. Use the Bartlett Street entrance.

Cost for adults is $7.50, children $3.

‘Person to Person’ social in Poland

POLAND — “Person to Person” has re-scheduled its planned February program, which was canceled due to snow, to Sunday, March 15.
