1953 – 2015

LEWISTON — Earl Russell Tibbetts Jr., 61, of Lewiston, passed away Thursday, Feb. 26, at Central Maine Medical Center, with his daughters Michelle and Cheryl and son-in-law, Steven, by his side.

Born Nov. 21, 1953, a son of Earl and Lorraine (Grant) Tibbetts, he was educated at St. Joseph’s School and Lewiston High School, graduating in 1972, and continued his education at Central Maine Vocational Technical Institute in Auburn, graduating with a degree in automotive engineering.

He was the owner and operator Earl’s Amoco in Auburn. Earl was employed as a TIG welder at Bath Iron Works for 22 years, where he received recognition for inventing a crucial equipment part and was very active in the union.

Earl enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, reading, going to powwows, having breakfast with friends at Dubois Café in Lewiston and driving his Ford Mustang convertible. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

He will always be remembered for his ability to fix anything and his keen wit and sense of humor. He has been reunited with his wife of 25 years, Carol (Hamel) Tibbetts, who passed away in 2012.

Earl will be greatly missed by his daughter, Michelle Boucouvalas and her husband, Steven, of Saco and their children, Petro II, Demetrios and Lauren; daughter, Cheryl Tibbetts of Auburn and her children, Timika, Ian and Jordan; his father, Earl R. Tibbetts Sr. and stepmother, Sylvia, of Hallowell; his mother, Lorraine Bussier and stepfather, Oliver “OJ,” of Winthrop; brothers, Ricky Bussier and Russell Tibbetts and his wife, Laura; sisters, Rilla Holt and her husband, John, Debbie Decker and her husband, Chris, and Kelly and her husband, Erik; mother-in-law, Carolyn Hamel; a large, extended family; and many dear friends.
