1930 – 2015
AUBURN — Geraldine B. Gagne, 84, of Lane Road in Greene, died Friday, Feb. 27, surrounded by her loving family after a brief illness, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice.
She was born in Keegan on Dec. 26, 1930, a daughter of the late Aurele and Rose (Michaud) Blier. She graduated from Edward Little High School, Class of 1949.
Geraldine married her true love, Raymond L. Gagne, on Aug. 5, 1950, and they started a family and raised their six children.
Her bookkeeping career included working for Riley Insurance, White Insurance and Mariner Lumber; she retired in 1992, after 20 years with the Lewiston Sun Journal.
Geraldine was a very active member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Sabattus, where she was a Eucharistic minister and a member of the Dominican Sister Association. She volunteered many hours for various church activities.
She loved to travel, following her children in their journeys. She often talked of her trip to Rome, where she was able to see the Pope. She especially enjoyed her trips to casinos all over the country. As a wife, mother and grandmother, she enjoyed cooking her family favorites: her holiday pork pies, pot roasts with brown potatoes and spaghetti. She also enjoyed dancing, her birds and flower gardens.
She leaves her husband of 64 years, Raymond L. Gagne, of Greene; her four sons, Eugene Gagne and his wife, Monique, of Greene, Arthur Gagne and his wife, Marcia, of Greene, Michael Gagne and his wife, Sue, of Berwick and Joseph Gagne of New Hampshire; her two daughters, Anita Marston of Turner and Theresa Fortin and her husband, Alan, of Pennsylvania; four sisters, Ernestine LaRose of Lewiston, Jeannine Quintal of New Hampshire, Catherine Blier of Florida and Martine Cloutier and her husband, Don, of Arizona; six brothers, Aurele Blier Jr., of Litchfield and his companion, Alice, of Lewiston, Andrew Blier of Massachusetts, Carroll Blier and his wife, Claire, of Sanford, Clarence Blier and his wife, Jackie, of New Hampshire, Eric Blier an his wife, Carole, of Waterville and Roger “Rocky” Blier of Auburn; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents; her maternal grandparents, Fred and Harmonia Michaud; her paternal grandparents, Joseph and Catherine Blier; a sister, Joceline Blier; a son-in-law, Russell Marston; and a granddaughter, Kristen Gagne.
