In attempting to re-mount the seat on the hearse, which he had driven from North Turner and was returning with Wednesday afternoon, Austin Howard, proprietor of large stables in Auburn, slipped and fell between the two horses and was trampled by them. The wheels of the conveyance passed over one of his legs. He was stunned and bruised but, tho lame and sore Thursday, he was not confined to his bed. He had dismounted from the hearse and the horses were standing still when be placed his foot on the step to re-mount. He was heavily clothed for so long and so cold a trip and when his foot slipped he was unable to catch hold of anything. He lunged forward and it was this that frightened the horses.

The change Jan. 22 from hourly to half-hourly bus service on the Lisbon Street bus run appears to be making a difference. Early figures based on riders-per-day through Feb. 16 and projected through the end of the month show ridership is up 2.5 percent, from 814 to 834 riders per day, over January. In returning the half-hourly service, Hudson Bus Lines also adjusted the College Street afternoon route to reflect hourly service from 1 to 5 p.m.
