Whatever happens from here on in will be strictly an anti-climax. That is the opinion of the hockey fans that were on hand at the Central Maine Youth Center last night, where the St. Doms hockey team was forced to come from behind to get a 4-4 tie that couldn’t be resolved in two added periods of play. With the two clubs forced to settle for a 4-4 tie last evening, the entire game will be replayed at the CMYC on Tuesday. This means that should the Lewiston High School Devils emerge as the winner on Tuesday night that the SPA Tourney would be continued through Thursday evening, as it would be the Doms first loss of the tourney, and two losses are needed to erase any team from the running.

Lewiston’s landfill expansion plans are marooned at the state Department of Environmental Protection, awaiting approval. Meanwhile, the city is faced with turning its environmentally defective landfill into “Mount Trashmore,” according to Chris Branch, public works director. Approval, according to Branch, hinges on whether ledge at the landfill site on River Road is “fractured bedrock aquifer,” an aquifer on which domestic water supplies can be based. Lewiston’s consultants have determined that the ledge is not bedrock aquifer, Branch said.
