LEWISTON — A Mass of Christian Burial honoring the life of Cyprien L. Martel Jr., M.D., was celebrated Friday, March 6, by the Rev. James Martel at Holy Family Church of the Prince of Peace Parish.
At the beginning of Mass, Dr. Martel’s family draped their father’s casket with a white burial cloth that represented Cyprien’s baptism into a new spiritual life with God.
During Mass, a reading from the Old Testament was proclaimed by Dr. Martel’s grandson, William Martel Jr.; the second reading was from the New Testament and was proclaimed by granddaughter, Catherine Martel. The Prayer of the Faithful was recited by a second granddaughter, Kathryn Martel. The offertory gifts were brought to the altar by grandson, William, and Dr. Martel’s daughter-in-law, Dianne Martel. The communion song was a flute solo titled “Ashokan Farewell,” played by granddaughter Megan Martel. Words of Remembrance were then shared by grandson Spencer Martel.
At the conclusion of Mass, the Martel family formed a receiving line in the back of church, allowing attendees to extend their personal condolences to the family.
Graveside committal prayers will be held in the spring at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Biddeford, concluding with U.S. Army military honors.
Pallbearers were Thomas and James Martel, Jonathan Kutrubes, William Martel Jr., and Spencer Martel, as well as Charles Riordan.
Arrangements were by Pinette Dillingham & Lynch Funeral Home of Lewiston.
