100 years ago, 1915
The stranger seeking work and food is still in Lewiston and Auburn in quite large numbers. People in both cities are loathe to notify police headquarters that they are annoyed by men asking for food.

50 years ago, 1965
(EDITORIAL) Two recent budget workshops of the Lewiston City Council degenerated into childish spectacles that are an embarrassment to the people of Maine’s second largest municipality. They must not be repeated. Frustrated by disagreements over budget cuts, some councilors resorted to rude outbursts, ad hominem attacks and otherwise intemperate behavior that ill-befitted the supposed stature of their position. At Thursday’s work session, one councilor was overheard challenging another to a fistfight, and three members walked out of the meeting in disgust after laboring over the budget for five hours.

25 years ago, 1990
The Mary Dillingham Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, will honor eight area high school seniors, all winners of the DAR Good Citizen and the National Defense Good Citizenship awards. The young people have been cited for outstanding citizenship, honesty, courage, service, leadership and patriotism. Named Good Citizens are Eric Pelletier of Lewiston High School; Lorri Additon of Leavitt Area High School, Turner; Jennifer Raymond of St. Dominic Regional High School, Lewiston; and Heidi Chicoine of Edward Little High School, Auburn. Recipients of the National Defense Good Citizenship awards are Shannon Soor of Lewiston High School; Allison Sienko of Leavitt Area High School; Ronald Guerin of St. Dominic Regional High School; and Colette Ouellette of Edward Little High School.
