The Kennebec River Sail & Power Squadron is offering the America’s Boating Courses.

The course is designed to familiarize boaters with fundamentals of safe boat handling and operation and to be qualified for certification in most states and Canada that require boating education before operation of any watercraft. The course is required in Maine for operation of a personal watercraft for 16 to 18 years old. They must show proof of course and birth date.

The course includes: boat handling, trailering, radio use, rules of the road, marine electronics, adverse conditions, emergencies, aids to navigation, required safety equipment, Maine boating laws and much more.

Scheduled courses are:

Saturday, March 14, from 9 a.m. to noon at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 78 Pleasant St., Auburn.

Wednesday, March 18, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Gardiner High School, Gardiner.

Saturday, April 25, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Wilton/Farmington area.

Seminar classes are:

Wednesday, April 15, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in the Wilton/Farmington area, “Boating on Rivers, Locks and Lakes.”

Thursday, April 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lewiston High School, “Rules of the Road.”
