LEWISTON — Carlene F. Hildebrandt, 79, formerly of Auburn, died Tuesday, March 10, at Montello Manor, where she had been a resident for the past year and a half.
Born in South Paris on April 30, 1935, she was the daughter of Martin and Evelyn Morse Miller. Carlene attended Auburn schools and was a graduate of Edward Little High School, Class of 1953.
Carlene worked in the office of Stearns Inc., until starting her family, and then did accounting from home for several years. She later went to work managing elderly housing, including Oak Park in Lewiston, the Cotton Mill in Hallowell and Arch Alpha in Augusta. She retired as a registered orthotic fitter from Bedard Pharmacy in 1997.
She was awarded the “Service Award” and the “Terese Lasser Award” by the American Cancer Society for her volunteer service facilitating a breast cancer support group and Reach to Recovery. She also served as commissioner of the Auburn Housing Authority for two terms, ending in 2013.
A member of Holy Cross Church, Prince of Peace Parish, her greatest joy came from time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her son, Calvin K. Shaw, of Lewiston; daughter, Brenda Robitaille and husband, Marc, of Greene; grandchildren, Ryan and Nicole Robitaille; and her brother, Donald Burns and wife, Nancy, of Greenville, Tenn.
