1917 – 2015
LEWISTON — George J. Gaudreau, 98, of Lewiston, died Sunday evening, March 8, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Stockholm on March 5, 1917, a son of George and Clarisse (Pelletier) Gaudreau. George was a military veteran, having served in the U.S. Army in Italy and North Africa during World War II, until his honorable discharge.
On Aug. 31, 1941, he married the love of his life, the former Amanda C. Paradis, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lewiston. Together, they worked and raised their four young children in Maine and Connecticut, before moving back to Maine permanently. Amanda predeceased him in April 2012.
Following his military service, George first worked at the Androscoggin Mill, before moving to Connecticut in the late 1950s, when he went to work for Case Brothers Paper Mill in East Hartford, Conn., for a number of years. He later worked as a truck driver for Mosey’s Corned Beef Co., in South Windsor and Bloomfield, Conn., until his retirement. He was a hard worker, with a strong work ethic.
Among his favorite enjoyments in his free time were cars, horses, his dogs, Boots and Tiny, collecting scrap metal, his garage and his camper.
George was a loving, devoted and hardworking husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be dearly missed.
He leaves behind his four children, George Richard Gaudreau and wife, Karen, of Broad Brook, Conn., Margaret Saulnier and her significant other, Alcide, of Colrain, Mass., Roger Gaudreau and wife, Debbie, of Canton, Conn., and Lorain Field and husband, John, of Leland, N.C.; six grandchildren, Michelle, Gabrielle, Diane, Jeremy, Ashlyn and Alyssa; five great-grandchildren, George, Nick, Jillian, Juliet and Grayson; a halfsister, Jeanne Charest, of Lewiston; and several nieces and nephews.
George was predeceased by his wife, Amanda, in 2012; his sisters, Georgie and Elsie; and his granddaughter, Michelle, in 2014.
