There’s no missing Leah Cross.

She’s friendly, quick to smile and she’s got a whirlwind of blond dreadlocks dancing down her back. For Christmas, she added green and red. She’s considering a follicular nod to spring next with purple, coral and green.

Cross has been a hairdresser for almost nine years, now at All About U Salon in New Auburn and also teaching color classes for John Paul Mitchell systems all over Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. She also has a cosmetology teacher’s license.

Originally from Unity, she drives a lot and she’s moved a bunch.

“It’s been fun looking at all the different cultures and atmospheres that are in the different towns in Maine,” she said. “No town is the same, I’ve discovered.”

Describe the flavor of the different Maine towns you’ve lived in, in five words or less: Unity: Homey, simplicity, organic, refuge, sound. Augusta: Austere, collegial, commercial. Brunswick: Character, richness, connected. Fairfield: Friendly, youthful, central.

What could we all do today, in five minutes or less, to look better? Do something that makes you feel beautiful! From applying your favorite lip gloss to touching up your nail polish or putting on that scarf or bracelet that you love. The simplest meaningful touch to your daily routine gives you confidence, and confidence is beautiful!

Last hair color recommended to a friend? All over rich brunette with sultry cherry and sunny blond highlights. It was actually for my sister Kati Ann who I had the privilege to color for the first time! A busy mom with limited time and even less for herself. It was a pleasure to finally get to help her feel as beautiful as her heart is and give her some “me” time. We all need more of that.

Last book? “Twilight.” Just started reading it over again. I am a sucker for suspenseful romantic roller-coasters. I am in constant turmoil between team Edward and team Jacob!

Last movie? “Casino Royale.” James Bond always weaves together the perfect tapestry of attraction! I was able to find Daniel Craig’s famous swim trunks for my man. Perfect Valentine’s Day present!

Website or app everyone should be checking out? Foodle is a great app for quick nutrition facts. Easy to use and has everything I eat, plus they update using suggestions from users. A-Z food nutrition facts is also helpful to view more in-depth information.

Best comment you’ve gotten about your dreads? I get so many fantastic reactions to my dreadlocks. They should have their own blog. Truthfully, I relish any opportunity to inspire and engage others.

You spend a lot of time behind the wheel for your job. Last thing you passed that made you do a double-take: This time of year it’s always something to do with our predictably unpredictable weather. I drove by a school where there were about 20 to 25 teenagers on the roof shoveling off the snow! Never seen that many bodies for such a task, but hey, kids need to learn to be active both physically and in community service, so thumbs up to that!
