GRAY — Utility crews Wednesday were mopping up sporadic power outages caused by powerful wind gusts across Maine.

James Brown of the National Weather Service in Gray said Wednesday that gusts reached 54 mph in York, 51 mph in South Bristol and 56 mph at the Isle of Shoals buoy, causing thousands of power outages across the region.

To the north, it caused blowing snow.

Mark Bloomer of the National Weather Service in Caribou said a snowstorm that hit eastern and northern Maine left 8 inches in Dyer Brook, 7.5 inches in Orient and 6 inches in Sherman and Van Buren. He said visibility was reduced by blowing snow.
